ABSTRACT
O presente artigo tem como finalidade realizar uma revisão de literatura para identificar aspectos fisiológicos associados à Síndrome de Down, as implicações na cavidade bucal e sistêmicas em pacientes na fase oral, bem como as repercussões no tratamento odontológico. As bases de dados utilizadas foram: Lilacs, Bireme e Scielo na busca de artigos relacionados à Síndrome de Down no período de janeiro de 1999 até 2016. Após o estudo concluiu-se que a inclusão do cirurgião-dentista na terapia de uma criança com Síndrome de Down é fundamental e se iniciada na fase oral pode intervir de maneira precoce acompanhando o crescimento e desenvolvimento ósseo e dentário, além de ainda orientar os responsáveis sobre hábitos e doenças bucais.
The purpose of this article is to conduct a literature review to identify physiological aspects associated with Down syndrome (SD), oral and systemic implications in oral patients; as well as the repercussions on dental treatment. The databases used were: Lilacs, Bireme and Scielo in the search of articles related to ED in the period from January 1999 to 2016. After the study it was concluded that inclusion of the Dentist (CD) in the therapy of a child with DS is fundamental and if initiated in the oral phase can intervene in an early manner accompanying bone and dental growth and development, as well as guiding those responsible for oral habits and diseases
